Hyatt Makes Finding Award Nights Easier With New Award Calendar
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Using your World of Hyatt points just got a lot simpler. In a move first spotted by One Mile at a Time, Hyatt has quietly rolled out a new award calendar on both its website and mobile app, making it easier to spot when you can actually book a room with points.

Yes, Hyatt had a calendar before, but it only showed peak, standard, or off-peak pricing. It didn’t tell you if rooms were actually available to book with points. That meant a lot of guessing and clicking around, especially for tough-to-book hotels like the Park Hyatt Kyoto or Alila Ventana Big Sur.

Now, that’s changed. The new feature lets you scan through a full year (or more) and see exactly when award nights are open at most Hyatt properties. So far, this feature doesn’t appear to work with any of Hyatt’s all-inclusive hotels, but we’re hopeful that will soon change.

It’s a small update that could make a big difference in snagging those hard-to-find free nights. If your original search comes up empty, just pull up the calendar to check other dates without starting over.

To use this new feature, start by searching for a given hotel – or even more broadly by city – making sure to select the “use points” option in the search menu.

For example, I searched for hotels in Kyoto, Japan, over Labor Day weekend and found out that there weren’t any award nights at the Park Hyatt for my desired dates.

But after clicking on “view rates,” it brought me to the hotel details page with the option to “view points calendar.” So long as you’ve selected “use points” on your first search – or toggle it on within the individual hotel’s page – you’ll be able to pull up this new monthly calendar and see if other nights are available.

Lo and behold, while the nights I originally selected weren’t an option when using points, the following weekend is. If your travel plans are flexible and you really want to stay at this hotel (and you should!), you could book the following weekend instead.

In this case, you can see that Friday and Saturday night are charging the peak price of 45,000 points per night, while Sunday is priced at the standard 40,000-point mark. Again, with a little flexibility, you might be able to shift your dates around to take advantage of a cheaper rate.

Without this new calendar feature, you would have had to go back to the original search box and start over when the initial search came up empty. But now, you can easily find open dates in a matter of seconds with the full calendar view.

Bottom Line

Hyatt just rolled out a new award calendar on its website and app that shows month-by-month award night availability — not just pricing.

This makes it much easier to spot open nights using points, especially at hard-to-book properties. If your initial search comes up empty, you can now quickly check other dates without starting from scratch.
