Singapore Airlines restores full 9x daily schedule to Jakarta

All services operate daily

As you can see, Singapore Airlines will be offering its 2018 Regional Business Class (Airbus A350 Medium Haul) on up to three of its nine Jakarta flights from next month (SQ960/961, SQ966/967 and SQ968/951), a rare seat type for the route which until recently only usually featured the 2013 long-haul Business Class.

Here’s how upcoming weekly flight frequencies and capacity look for the Singapore – Jakarta route, based on the week of 5-11 May 2025, compared to pre-COVID (16-22 December 2019).

By May, this increased schedule from Singapore Airlines will hike the carrier’s weekly one-way seat capacity between Singapore and Jakarta by 38% to 17,143 on 63 flights in each direction, practically identical to pre-COVID levels recorded in December 2019.

Garuda Indonesia also recently increased its Singapore – Jakarta flight schedule to six daily flights, operated alongside SIA services under a commercial joint venture, a schedule the airline will maintain through to the end of the current summer season.

However, Garuda has downgauged all its flights on this route to Boeing 737-800 operation, compared to majority wide-body Airbus A330 operation a few months ago.

KrisFlyer members can now redeem miles for Garuda Indonesia flights between Singapore and Jakarta, but at higher rates than for SIA-operated flights – and significantly more than the recently introduced option to use Avios points on Garuda services – without any fuel surcharge.

80% fewer First Class seats to Jakarta

In December 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore Airlines offered First Class on five of its nine daily Jakarta flights, however in the current summer 2025 season only two out of nine flights have this cabin class installed:

It gets even worse – before the pandemic, SIA operated the Boeing 777-300 (non-ER) on five of its nine daily Jakarta flights, each offering eight First Class seats. Now, only two of the nine flights feature First Class, and they’re operated by Boeing 777-300ERs, each of which have just four First Class seats.

Overall, that reduces daily First Class seat capacity on this route by 80%, from 40 seats in each direction to just eight seats in each direction.

Why is that important on such a short route you may ask? Well, it’s quite simply the most affordable way to gain access to The Private Room at Changi Airport Terminal 3, either for cash or miles, whether before departure or after arrival.

There’s also the option to check in the day before and spend the night in one of the the transit hotels, to maximise your visits to The Private Room before departure.

You can check in for any SIA flight up to 48 hours before departure, however access to the transit area where the lounges are located is only permitted up to 24 hours before your departure.

For now, Singapore Airlines is showing First Class on four of its nine daily Jakarta flights in the upcoming northern winter 2025/26 season, from 26th October 2025. However, this is typically just a ‘copy-paste’ of previous season schedules, with actual aircraft types operating confirmed closer to the date.

Jakarta is also often featured in SIA’s monthly KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion, typically offering 30% off Saver award rates in Business Class and Economy Class, which brings redemption pricing down to 14,700 miles and 5,950 miles respectively for those cabins.

This additional ninth daily flight from May 2025 will hopefully mean Jakarta features even more Spontaneous Escapes options in upcoming months, especially with the relatively short-notice addition of SQ966/967 to the schedule.

With the return of a full nine daily flights between Singapore and Jakarta from May 2025, Singapore Airlines is restoring its busiest route to pre-COVID capacity levels for the first time in over five years.

It’s been slow progress for Jakarta compared to other cities for some reason, not too long ago only seven of the usual nine daily flights were operating!

This news actually strengthens the airline’s dominance on the popular city pair to 36%, since not all airlines have restored capacity yet, but perhaps more importantly it brings greater flexibility and hopefully more redemption opportunities for KrisFlyer members.

Unfortunately First Class capacity has taken a significant hit over the years, plus there’s increasing deployment of the smaller 2018 Regional Business Class seats – not always a favourite since regular travellers on this route are very much used to the wider ‘2013 J’ product.
