Singapore Airlines announces Changi Terminal 2 lounge revamp
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

All three of SIA’s lounges at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2 are going under the knife for a full and long-overdue revamp, with completion targeted for mid-2027.

Singapore Airlines has announced a long-overdue upgrade to all three of its lounges at Changi Airport Terminal 2, investing S$45 million to breathe new life into its oldest and most outdated home base facilities – including the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge, which to this day still doesn’t even have its own toilets.

That’s all set to change, with a major redevelopment project kicking off today, 15th April 2025, bringing expanded spaces, fresh interiors, and key enhancements in phases, with the full project slated for full completion by mid-2027.

This is very welcome news for frequent Singapore Airlines travellers, since these lounges only picked up a minor refresh when they reopened post-pandemic.

T2 lounge revamp project

While SIA’s flagship lounges in Terminal 3 were given a significant facelift between 2019 and 2022, the Terminal 2 counterparts have been showing their age for years. From tired furnishings and limited seating and relaxation options, there’s no question these lounges have fallen short of the newer T3 facilities.

Indeed many passengers, ourselves included, usually check in over at Terminal 3 even when departing on a T2 flight, then use the better lounges there before taking the SkyTrain across to the correct terminal come departure time.

Now, that’s about to change – and not a moment too soon.

“This significant investment underscores Singapore Airlines’ unwavering commitment to elevating the end-to-end travel experience for our customers.

“Building on the success of our Terminal 3 lounges, we are extending our signature hospitality and thoughtfully curated offerings to Terminal 2.”

Yeoh Phee Teik
SVP Customer Experience, Singapore Airlines

What’s changing?

SIA will transform all three of its lounges in Terminal 2:

  • SilverKris First Class Lounge
  • SilverKris Business Class Lounge
  • KrisFlyer Gold Lounge

Across the board, space and seating capacity will grow by an impressive 50%, with the airline promising signature design touches and culinary upgrades as seen in its newer Terminal 3 lounges, that opened in 2022 following their three-year revamp.

Let’s take a look at what’s promised for each of the renovated T2 lounges in turn.

SilverKris First Class Lounge

  • Construction starts: 15th April 2025
  • Expected completion: Q4 2025

The First Class lounge will be the first to undergo renovations, starting today (15th April 2025).

This will actually be an all-new lounge in a different location, opposite the existing T2 SilverKris lounge complex, according to the artist’s impression.

The new First Class SilverKris lounge appears to take over the current SATS office on the opposite side of the terminal, and should therefore have runway views.

Key highlights of the new lounge will include:

  • A new barista coffee and cocktail bar
  • Higher ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows
  • A live cooking station serving up a rotating menu of Singaporean, Asian and Western favourites
  • An expanded self-service buffet, mirroring Terminal 3’s offering

  • Expected completion: Mid-2027

The Business Class lounge will see a 30% size boost, with a complete redesign focused on comfort and functionality.

Features will include:

  • Varied seating, including wingback chairs, sofas, and productivity pods
  • A quiet rest area with recliners
  • A new full-service bar with barista coffee by day and signature cocktails by night
  • Expanded dining with Western and Asian cuisine options
The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Business Class lounge in Terminal 2 is likely to have many of the same design features as the recently-renovated Terminal 3 lounge, like these modular couple seats.

These new features should bring this lounge on par with the latest T3 SilverKris Business Class Lounge.

KrisFlyer Gold Lounge

  • Construction starts: First half of 2026
  • Expected completion: Mid-2027

Arguably the most overdue upgrade of them all, the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge – currently the only lounge at Changi without its own toilets – will finally come into its own:

  • Double the capacity from the current 160 seats
  • Lounge-exclusive restrooms and shower suites (finally!)
  • Workstations, armchairs, and dining spaces

“New amenities [in the T2 KrisFlyer Gold Lounge] will include in-lounge restrooms and shower suites, enabling customers to freshen up before their flights.”

Our reviews

We have recent reviews of the T2 KrisFlyer Gold and SilverKris Business Class lounges since they reopened back in October 2022, with some minor enhancements but more or less with the same dated format they had pre-pandemic.

As you can see, the upgrades here will be very welcome and will no doubt see these lounges through to the opening of Terminal 5, in the mid-2030s.

Which SIA flights depart from T2?

Singapore Airlines operates over 500 weekly flights from Changi Airport Terminal 2, with the following destinations on the list:

  • All South East Asia (e.g. Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines)
  • Bangladesh
  • Japan (except SQ12 to Tokyo Narita)
  • Maldives
  • Nepal
  • South Korea
  • Sri Lanka

T2 is also home to several Star Alliance carriers at Changi, including Air India, Lufthansa, Swiss, Ethiopian, United Airlines, ANA, Thai Airways and Air Canada.

Lounge-eligible passengers departing on Air Canada from Singapore to Vancouver will also benefit from these revamped SIA facilities.

First and Business Class passengers and Star Alliance Gold members travelling on these airlines can also use the Singapore Airlines lounges in this terminal prior to departure, and so this revamp is welcome news for them too.

Phased construction

Singapore Airlines has announced that the renovations of these three lounges will be staged over the next two years for minimal disruption.

The all-new First Class Lounge will be tackled first, with the Business Class and KrisFlyer Gold lounges following in sequence, once the First Class lounge is open and its previous space is no longer occupied.

Temporary arrangements for eligible passengers during each construction phase will be announced in due course, though there should be no immediate impact during the First Class lounge construction this year, since that one is in a brand new location.

This long-overdue overhaul will bring SIA’s Changi Terminal 2 lounges up to the latest standard, aligning them with their flagship Terminal 3 counterparts.

The addition of long-missing amenities – especially restrooms and showers in the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge – will certainly be a welcome relief for frequent flyers.

While it’s a lengthy wait until mid-2027 for full completion, the result should be a dramatically improved pre-flight experience for Business and First Class passengers departing from Terminal 2, and for KrisFlyer Elite Gold members in all cabin classes.

Those with First Class lounge access will be the first to benefit, with the all-new First Class SilverKris Lounge scheduled to open its doors in Q4 this year.

We’ll be tracking each phase of the project closely – so stay tuned for updates as work gets underway.
